"Brass offers a classic and timeless look while still feeling bold and contemporary," says Amy Biller Switzer, marketing manager at Emtek and Schaub. "We will see that continue into 2020." The finish blends nicely with most kitchen design styles, but we especially love the look of brass hardware against dark, moody cabinetry or a polished brass faucet that acts as a shiny focal point in a neutral kitchen.
When the goal is rustic simplicity, there's no need to spend tons on custom cabinetry and granite counters. Paint transformed oak cabinets, bought off the rack at Lowe's and topped with Ikea's birch slabs, while the same white semigloss brightened stools from Walmart. An old tablecloth was used as a skirt for the farmhouse sink, and classic glass cannisters, also Walmart finds, were used for storage instead of upper cabinets.
You can remove walls and cabinetry if you have the space and the budget to do it. You can even combine this space with the dining room for one large, unified area, instead of having a bar or tall wall separate the two. If you live in a condo, check building codes to make sure you can knock out walls. Also, consult with a contractor, as they could recognize that the wall is connected to a supporting beam.

When you think about how much time you spend in your kitchen, a calming color is a clear winner. We especially love the deep moody blues and rich blue-greens that pair so beautifully with many other kitchen trends, like brass hardware and natural wood accents. Wadden suggests Charcoal Blue SW 2739, a smoky slate blue, as a color that complements light countertops and warm wood tones.

The installation of my granite countertops was a disaster. It was cut wrong and then the company and the installers tried to blame me the customer for this issue. They the installers wanted to cut my new sink to fit the counter which was cut wrong to begin with. When they (installers) left the first time they said that the company had already used my second slab for another job. Disappointing isn't the word for what we went through with this installation. Once it was all said and done 2 weeks later I found damage to my new dishwasher!!! My home was left a disaster during and after the installation and for what we paid this should never have happened. I shopped for days to find the perfect tile backsplash. I spent hours looking for the one in that pin. Then I walked into Emser Tile in Sacramento and it was on the wall of one of the displays. The clouds parted and angels sang…and then I found out it had been discontinued and the wall was getting demoed the next week. (#saddness) Luckily, while we were looking around at Emser Tile, I found another subway tile I loved: Lucente Cascade.
The layout of kitchens has drastically changed over the years. While the kitchen triangle is still important, many creative designers and homeowners have completely transformed kitchen layouts. As such, with any major kitchen remodel, you must consider plumbing costs. If you want to move your sink or dishwasher to the other side of the room, you may have to install new pipes. Additionally, for new sinks, you may have to add a new drain. While the costs are not large, they must be considered when researching kitchen remodeling costs.
Remodeling your kitchen is the perfect opportunity to create a design that’s based on your individual needs. Focus on who will be using the kitchen most and how many people will be working in the space at one time. You’ll want to ensure you have room to work and move around as needed, so consider the work triangle in your new layout. You’ll also want to think about a dining area, how often you entertain, and what a kitchen with guests would look like. Our team of kitchen designers can develop a variety of options to ensure your new kitchen perfectly fits your lifestyle.

Similarly, you can update your kitchen by changing the color of your cabinets. You don’t need a complete remodel to update the look. You can paint your cabinets and make them look like new again! While you can likely complete the painting in an afternoon, it may take a day or two to dry completely. Remember this as you’re planning your paint project. See our tutorial on the Best Way To Paint Kitchen Cabinets.

The cost of flooring depends on whether you're replacing a few cracked tiles or doing a complete overhaul of your existing flooring. If you're opting for the latter, the price will depend on your kitchen's square footage and the flooring material you've chosen. Vinyl is generally the most affordable option. While ceramic tile, laminate, cork and hardwood tend to cost more, they can also increase your home's value.

As the heart of the home, kitchens tend to serve multiple purposes. That's why smart storage is essential for keeping kitchen clutter at bay and making the most of available space. Creative storage solutions continue to be popular add-ons in kitchen design, with 78% of homeowners renovating their kitchens planning to include specialty storage in their new cabinetry, according to a 2019 Houzz study.
When remodeling a kitchen, most homeowners begin with their kitchen cabinets. After all, cabinets significantly impact the kitchen's overall first impression. Those that are dated or damaged can leave future buyers underwhelmed, even if the kitchen has immense potential. On average, you can expect to pay between $3,000–$8,000, depending on whether or not you choose custom cabinets.
Minor remodels aim to preserve the kitchen’s existing footprint while refreshing its overall appearance and usability. The significant changes are usually budget-friendly fixes like painting the walls, adding new flooring and buying energy-efficient appliances, since the customer isn’t selecting top-of-the-line materials or products. Cabinetry is often a lofty expense, but minor remodels opt for money-saving measures like refacing the existing cabinets or selecting entry-level cabinets, which are mass-produced and ready-to-install.
